Tennis
Tennis originally was known as lawn tennis, and formally still is in the UK because it was played on grass courts by the Vicrorians. It is now played on a variety of surfaces. The origins of the game can be traced to a 12th–13th century French handball game calle je de paume (game of the palm), from which was derived a complex indoor racket-and-ball game: real tennis. This ancient game is still played to a limited degree.

Currently our section stands at approx 20 members, comprised of both ladies and men of a variety of ages and from different walks of life. Newcomers are welcome to join at any point throughout the year. None of us are potential Wimbledon champions, so please do not worry if you are not on a par with the likes of Federer or Williams! As long as you play to a reasonable standard, then please feel free to join us.
All Tennis Section evenings work on a first come first served basis; whoever arrives first, goes on court first. Everyone, however, is guaranteed a game as we do not play full sets, just 8 games per match to enable everyone to enjoy a hit. Most of our matches are doubles.
Our group is a friendly one and as such, several of us organise our own matches and socialise outside of the official arranged sessions. Social tournaments are also organized on an ad-hoc basis both within the Club and also between other local clubs.. We also participate in the Bahrain Social league.
